There are places where hospitality isn't staged, but is simply there. Places where good food needs no elaborate descriptions, because its origin, quality, and care speak for themselves. The village inn at Ebner 1822 in the upper Gurk Valley is such a place. A spot for conscious enjoyment, a personal atmosphere, and honest cuisine – all underpinned by an ethos that has grown and remains palpable to this day.
Organic cuisine by conviction
What appears on the table in the village inn doesn't follow any short-term trends. Organic cuisine here is an expression of an attitude. It suits a place like Ebner 1822, where you can sense that decisions aren't made randomly – neither in the architecture nor in the way of cooking.
We serve what's seasonable and what has been produced with care. Good ingredients, clear flavours, and a cuisine that allows the produce to shine. Regionality here isn't an empty slogan, but a lived practice. Much of it comes from the local area, from neighbouring farms, and from a landscape that dictates the rhythm.
Barbara Sonnleitner cooks with a feel for the essentials. The focus isn't on overabundance, but on flavour, quality, and the joy of honest cuisine. It's precisely this conscious reduction that defines the Dorfschenke: less arbitrariness, more character.

Hospitality that lives on
The Dorfschenke didn't emerge from a blueprint but from a lived hospitality culture. Even back in the 19th district of Vienna, Barbara and her mother ran a 'Heuriger' (a traditional Austrian wine tavern). This experience, this instinct for atmosphere, and this understanding of genuine hospitality continue to shape the Dorfschenke to this day.
Even some long-time regulars from back then find their way to Carinthia today – not out of nostalgia, but because they find exactly what makes the village inn special: warmth, quality, and an atmosphere where you want to stay.
Ebner's Sunday Roast at the Village Inn
The village inn is deliberately not a classic daytime establishment. On selected Sundays, it opens its doors for Ebner's Sunday Roast at the Village Inn.
Then at the Ate, chatted and enjoyed ourselves at a communal table in a cosy atmosphere.. It is precisely this form of togetherness that gives the village pub its special character: personal, informal, and with a great appreciation for good food and good company.

These days, the village inn becomes a meeting place – with honest organic cuisine, a special atmosphere and great attention to detail.

Available for private hire for special occasions
In addition, the village inn can also exclusively for private parties and events can be booked. For family celebrations, birthdays, small weddings, baptisms or special gatherings in a private setting.
This is precisely where its quality lies: the village inn is not an anonymous venue, but a house with a soul. Those who celebrate here don't opt for the standard, but for atmosphere, attentiveness, and a form of hospitality that is conceived on an individual basis.
The menu, schedule, and atmosphere are not created according to a plan, but through conversation. This is how a celebration becomes an occasion with character – personal, harmonious, and memorable.
